Billy Connolly made me a photographer

When I was going to Western I wanted to become a journalist. I wrote for the Gazette, did some freelance work for magazines, but never once picked up a camera. Then one night I was assigned to review the comedian Billy Connolly at Centennial Hall. There was no photographer so my editor said, "Here, take a camera. What's the worst that can happen? You'll take some crappy photos." Well, I got a couple of decent photos and thought, hey, maybe this would help my journalistic resume. Within a couple of years I was taking more photos than writing and now almost 30 years later I have Billy Connolly to thank.
